Wood pellet boiler solutions for installations below 45 kW should be made up with MCS accredited products and MCS accredited installers of the owners of the scheme want to cash in on the Renewable Heat Incentive.

What is the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)?

MCS is a government sponsored scheme for renewable heating equipment of 45 kW and below. It is in place to support home owners who need confidence that the products and installers are of a high quality.

For installations below 45 kW both the installer and product must be MCS accredited in order for the owner to claim the Renewable Heat Incentive.

For installations above 45 kW the installation is subject to Ofgem approval, but does not have to be MCS accredited. The logic behind this is that professional purchasers would be able to purchase what they wanted and would not need the “quality” stamp. However the MCS scheme may be extended to include installers and products in larger installations.

Some organisations see the MCS stamp as important and therefore are requesting installers to be accredited.
